We don't think we've ever seen someone write about their celebrity organizing experience like Big Bang Theory's Mayim Bialik wrote about recently.
Best known for her lead role in the 1990s NBC sitcom Blossom, as well as her current role as Amy Farrah Fowler on CBS' The Big Bang Theory, Mayim really, really opened up on Kveller, a Jewish parenting blog and you've got to see this.
Nervous and brave:
"I have been told to do for years but resisted and finally gave in to… I hired a personal organizer. I hate getting help with things (as you all know, I clean my own toilets and am actually fine with that), and I was very nervous about this being Hollywood, where big personalities and diva desires are often more common with people like stylists and personal organizers than celebrities!"
"[When I spoke on the phone with the organizer] I practically needed a sedative, I was so nervous."
How did she find her organizer?
Through a referral from her Publicist, Mayim found and hired Katrina Teeple owner of Operation Organization, a local Los Angeles Professional Organizer who is based in Sherman Oaks in the San Fernando Valley.
"I know an organizer is not in most people’s budget, and I also know that many people actually do have the time, energy, and organizational patience and savvy to organize things on their own, but I am really glad I got help, because as organized a person as I am, I didn’t know how to go about organizing my house for me and my boys."
What did Mayim learn from the organizational process?
- Maximize space in the pantry by using jars and containers;
- Don't over-stuff your cabinets, find homes for things that don't fit;
- Put like items with like items;
- Designate rooms for specific purposes;
- Get matching hangers;
- Hang t-shirts, don't fold skirts.
The result? In her own words.
"I love my organized house. It’s not perfect, and it’s still got a ways to go, but I have a great base to start from..."
Wonderful job, Mayim!
