Fans of famous funny man Bob Hope were thrilled this weekend to find out he had as much junk collecting in his garage as they do.
KTLA Los Angeles reports that Hope's Daughter Linda, and the Hope family hosted a very informal garage sale to continue sifting through remnants of his late estate. For sale in his Toluca Lake home? Holiday and Christmas decorations, old movies, t-shirts, CDs, DVDs, figurines and books-- most have never been opened or even used. But that did not seem to bother fans who travelled far and wide to get a piece of the old Hollywood Legend.
Hope, a comedian, movie star, long time Oscars host, tireless USO tour emcee and golf nut built the Toluca Lake home located at 10346 Moorpark Street at the corner of Ledge Avenue and Moorpark Street, in 1939. Hope passed away at age 100 in 2003 and his wife Dolores passed at age 102 in 2011, according to the Los Angeles Daily News.
While the two-day garage sale won't be repeated again, a family spokesperson says another larger estate sale to include furniture, artwork and other items from the family home is scheduled for 2013.
"By having people able to get things from the garage sale that belonged to them - as well as, later on, the better things in the auction - I think [my parents would] be very happy to know that." - Linda Hope, daughter.
LA Observed has photos of the sale, although cameras were not allowed inside past the street.
