When I was in 7th grade, I won a big contest with my local radio station WPST 94.5 in Princeton, New Jersey.
My mother was interviewed for the radio broadcast and told the reporter that I was so happy I was "prancing" around the kitchen. For months I couldn't shake off the comments from my schoolmates. Ah, I had such a tough childhood.
But this week I was happily prancing around again, because Wednesday evening I discovered I won the Green Plug "What's Under Your Desk" Sweepstakes. The Green Plug people announced it all publically last Friday. Our announcement is on PR Web today. Please allow us to share all the fun with you through a shameless press release below. More to come. Can't wait.
Los Angeles Professional Organizer Wins Green Plug "What's Under Your Desk" Contest
John Trosko of Los Angeles receives a Beverly Hills lunch invitation with "green advocates" Christopher Knight and Adrianne Curry for his first place prize-winning photo entry and creative submission in the Green Plug "What's Under Your Desk" Contest
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) May 5, 2008 -- Earth Day 2008 may have come and gone, but the need to be globally conscious continues. This year alone, a staggering 379 million discarded and obsolete external power supplies are destined to end up in U.S. landfills.
The "What's Under Your Desk" contest sponsored by Green Plug, a San Ramon, California digital technology developer, brings light to the need for a single, universal power architecture for electronic devices which would reduce the mess lurking underneath America's desks. It is also believed that such a standard could prevent hundreds of millions of power supplies, cables and connectors every year from being tossed into America's landfills - maximizing resources, minimizing solid waste, and conserving energy.
John Trosko, a Los Angeles professional organizer won first place in the global contest by sharing his under-desk dilemmas in an enlightening and amusing manner with a photo, poetry and personal story. "As a business owner, the mass (and mess) of mis-matched cables and cords under workspaces is a universal headache for both my organizing clients and myself. The contest drew me in personally because of the struggle I see every day how to properly dispose of the devices," said John Trosko.
"It's an honor to be recognized as the first place prize-winner of the 'What's Under Your Desk' photo sweepstakes, sponsored by Green Plug. I humbly accept this honor with gratitude and gaffer's tape," he added.
Trosko's first place prize in the Green Plug sweepstakes is lunch in Beverly Hills with 'green advocates' Christopher Knight and Adrianne Curry, co-hosts of the VH-1 reality show, MY FAIR BRADY. The second place winner receives a $500 gift certificate to Wal-Mart, while Green Plug will make a $250 donation to the third place winner's favorite 'green' non-profit organization. Winners, including Trosko, were contacted April 30, 2008.
"We're delighted to honor (the contest winners) and pleased that they and so many others took time to share their power cord horror stories digitally," said Green Plug CEO Frank Paniagua, Jr. "We believe the power model is broken, but also that it's fixable, and it's gratifying to see that so many people understand that at a gut level. The problem may be at our feet, but the solution - a common sense, universal standard that serves consumers and protects the environment - is clearly in our hands."
As the first place prize-winner of lunch in Beverly Hills, Trosko enthusiastically says: "As a huge fan of Christopher McKnight and Adrianne Curry's careers, I admire their work for the environment and the ways they use their celebrity status to introduce people to a more socially-conscious lifestyle. Both Christopher and Adrianne are popular eco-advocates and I'm a professional organizer. We all have a common mission to better the environment, whether it's the planet or inside your very own home or office. It's exciting to collaborate and talk about the little things we can all do every day that will have a big impact on bettering the planet, and our neighborhood!"
