The Hints from Heloise column last week offered some great moving tips.
The tips are great for any region you live in, whether it's Los Angeles or elsewhere. Here is a sample, written by a couple who just completed their 13th move.
- Use different colors of duct tape to label boxes and furniture for each room. For example, yellow duct tape for the kitchen and dining room, white for basement, etc. For fragile items, we use bright-orange tape and write "fragile" on it. This is in addition to room-identification tape.
Use a permanent marker to label the colored tape. - For furniture, we stick a piece of blue masking tape on first (the kind you use for painting — it comes off easily) and then a piece of the colored duct tape on it for the room it goes in.
Draw a diagram on poster board of your new residence. Label each room with the color tape and place at the main entrance. - Draw a diagram on poster board for each room with the location of furniture, and place it on the door frame of the specific room. Also, label the top of the poster with the color tape for that room.
