Yesterday during rush hour, a blazing fire burned one of Los Angeles' original beachfront neighborhoods, dating to the 1930s. Yes, we have organizing clients in these neighborhoods.
Malibu Colony, a densely built stretch of luxury homes along Pacific Coast Highway, has been a favorite of celebrities over the years, including Mel Gibson, Pierce Brosnan, Pamela Anderson, Barbra Streisand, Ted Danson, David Geffen, and Courteney Cox-Arquette.
Actress Suzanne Somers and husband Alan Hamel's home (pictured left) was one of four destroyed by a Santa Ana wind-driven wildfire that swept through the exclusive seaside neighborhood of multimillion-dollar homes. The couple's assistant said:
''It's a total loss. The good news is Alan and Suzanne weren't hurt.''
Somers said on CNN/KCAL video this afternoon:
"We'll rebuild. And I believe we'll learn something from this. What else can you do after a tragedy. I think we'll learn something great from this. It was a beautiful house. It was a beautiful place to live."
Victoria Pinero, co-owner of Little Angels Pet Services, which takes care of dogs and other animals, was housesitting at one of the homes destroyed in the blaze. She said she wasn't home at the time the fire erupted, but rushed back to save the owners' four dogs. Only two were found so far.
It's amazing to think that after all our excess accumulation of stuff, our addictions to electronics, shoes, toys and cars here in Los Angeles, people still remember the most important possession: your life and your loved ones. And nothing else matters.
