Fall is here in Southern California, but you'd never know it with our 75-degree weather. But it's also time to clear your closet of seasonal merchandise you'll never wear. Why?
We can't tell you how many times clients let go out exquisite out-of-season clothes and accessories only to find out no one wants them-- most folks simply have no use for a cashmere sweater in June or a pair of Ya-Ya linen cropped pants in January-- so the hope of resale or consignment depresses.
It's important to purge before, or at the beginning of the season-- not at the end. Think of it as plastic surgery for your clothes. Your closet needs a little nip and tuck too, to keep up.
Here are some simple Fall '06 resale tips, brands and styles, courtesy of Crossroads Trading, along with our personal secrets.

As Organizing Experts, we suggest you also have any items quickly pressed or ironed. This will certainly encourage a higher purchase price. Fold them neatly and place in the best bag/suitcase you can find.
Arrive with a smile at the store, have something fun and interesting to talk about while they surf your clothes. Expect to hand over your driver's license every time you sell. Whatever you end up making, consider this recycling and head right over to the thrift store and donate what's left over.
In another post, we'll highlight higher-end stores, what they're looking for, and what there are waiting lists for.
So what's in your closet you're ready to give up?
