The past few weeks have been a whirlwind of activity around here. The Daily Candy article published more than a week ago has brought incredible opportunities into my life, and into my company. Over the weekend, the "fresh stART" fundraiser I've been serving on premiered Saturday to the packed Santa Monica Airport Art Studios uber-chic crowd (more on that later this week).
But the big news today? More press. Oh, not for me personally, but for efforts by my local Los Angeles organizing colleagues and the National Association of Professional Organizers.

By now, my friends and clients are probably exhausted at my talking about the 2006 Los Angeles Organizing Awards. Today I stopped by Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf on Sunset and grabbed a latte and the May issue of LA Magazine, which featured the Awards with a tongue-in-cheek look at the people who make "meticulous sense of your laundry room, your kosher kitchen, or your handbag." As Chair of the Award's event last January, I am really proud at the press we've been able to get, and really honored that Mary Melton at LA Mag had the foresight to feature our ceremony:
"The night's biggest upset is reserved for Best Organizing Product Resource, in which the Container Store (with 37-locations nationwide) triumphs over Staples (with 1,700 store nationwide). Accepting for the Container Store is the manager of its Pasadena branch, Lance Tango.... "We are constantly on that journey together," he declares, clutching his framed certificate, "to get your clients organized.""
My favorite quote from Mary's article?
"Even the centerpieces were labeled-- in this case, bowls clearly identified as containing goldfish."
I had my good friend and local Hollywood Restaurateur, Betty Fraser-- owner of Grub, help us design these whimsical goldfish centerpieces for the Awards. At the 11th hour, I snuck over to Cost Plus at the Grove and changed our original jars to these neat glass containers with stainless steel label holders, and slapped the words "goldfish" on the fronts. It was the perfect blend of inventive style and smart functionality-- that continues to move my company forward and have fun at the same time.
