It's hard to get ANY work done these past few weeks. With all the hot news about about Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's new bundle of joy in Malibu, the Golden Globes this Monday, People's Choice Awards last night, last weekend's Palm Spring's International Film Festival along with the Los Angeles Auto Show, the 2006 Los Angeles Organizing Awards and Govener Schwarzenegger's Mandeville Canyon Road motorcycle accident, who can sleep in Tinseltown?
But don't let all the fun with Brangelia and Arnold's visits to St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica get you distracted from all your organizing dilemas. It's already the Ides of January, have you done your planning for the New Year? According to my colleague Debbie Gilster who runs the Center for Growth and Productivity in Laguna Niguel, CA, you still have time. But read ahead for some tidbits that will move you and your business forward.
Debbie participated in an article in the Orange County Register on January 2nd about goal setting for her small business clients. But her advise should resonate through everyone, even when you're planning your household goals (which you should be doing.) Here is a sample with some tips from Gilster and author Jan Norman for achieving the goals you really want and how to approach the the goal-setting:
- Get away from the office and telephones so you can concentrate on the effort.
- Reflect on the past year's accomplishments and failures.
- Believe you can accomplish the goal you set.
- If needed, get a disinterested outsider to look at the business.
- For every goal, assign necessary tasks to achieve it that are measurable and set dates by which they will be accomplished.
- Find partners to hold you accountable for achieving identified goals.

OrganizingLA is curious-- January 30th is almost here, what goals have you set for your home or business? And what ways do you bunker down to make them? Please share.
