Gayle Chapin, a local colleague in Long Beach, member of NAPO (the National Association of Professional Organizers) and owner of EZRI Organizing Services, oversaw a recent makeover of sorts for her local charity, Centro Shalom in Long Beach, California.
Is this something you can do, too? And what benefits will it bring?
Director of the Center, Amelia Nieto said it will bring tremendous benefits: the makeover project made operations more efficient.
"Prior to Sunday, the office was overwhelmed with desks at its entrance. In the absence of shelves, the file cabinets lining its walls have had to double as storage space for items such as shoes and clothes. Household items such as plates and electronic kitchenware, toiletries and paper files added to the clutter."
Last Sunday, over 30 volunteers from Temple Israel helped bring physical order to the non-profit's 1,000-square-foot center with a four-hour "extreme makeover" as part of the temple's annual community service event.
Since 1977, Centro Shalom has helped bring order to the lives of the low-income families, battered women, homeless and struggling immigrants who enter its humble one-room office. Click here to read Samantha Gonzaga's article in the Long Beach Press-Telegram.
