SoCal is always being hit with Natural Disasters. From floods, earthquakes, fires, riots, mudslides and Michael Eisner, we're in the thick of it. Read ahead for important tips to prepare you and your family for the next one.
Last July, we posted OrganizingLA's "10 Tips for Disaster Preparedness" about preparing for the Winter Storms that created unimaginable mudslides. The Los Angeles Times takes Disaster Preparedness to a new level, with their "Ready to Grab and Go" article by Jennifer Lisle in Sunday's Real Estate Section. Experts recommend that homeowners have copies of the following ready just in case.
- birth certificates;
- social security cards;
- marriage certificates;
- mortgage and title documents;
- wills;
- credit-card backup;
- recent tax-return documentation.
The article continues that if " a single hard copy of these documents exists, they should be scanned into a computer and stored in an accessible fire. Copies can also be sent to relatives or friends who live far away that they wouldn't be affected by a local disaster." Great advise to organize and prepare.
