Being organized may seem like an open smile on a friendly shore, but there's nothing like coming home to a clean house, especially when you're dropping that little brown bag full of holiday goodies and you're tired.
But how do you come home to a clean house when you don't even know where to start? Say you're not able to hire a Professional Organizer to get you structured and systemed, or a Merry Maid to clean for you?
This weekend's Los Angeles Daily News printed an article starring the infamous FlyLady, Marla Cilley. The Mid-west Clean Queen has the answers for the ambitious self-helping mother-- but Cilley's theories hit the necessary marks and work for just about everyone. If you start today, your holidaze may be less frenzied and more fabulous.
"House cleaning is not rocket science," said Marla Cilley, otherwise known as the FlyLady (a nickname earned from her love of fly fishing). Cilley's Web site serves as an online coach for those who need help cleaning up their act. "People want someone to tell them where to start," she said.
The FlyLady site does tell them this, as well as what to clean and how to get rid of the clutter. Cilley also offers an encouraging series of daily e-mail reminders. With 266,000 members and more who visit her Web site, she has a community devoted to methods like the "27 Fling Boogie" and the "5-Minute Room Rescue."
What's our favorite FlyLady tidbits of organizing tidiness you ask? Check these out:
- How to care for your feather duster (imagine a wet rodent with a wooden tail)
- How to ride yourself of body clutter (the most personal clutter of them all)
- How to build a Control Journal (a place to put your routines, basic weekly plan, your zones and other household information.)
