The Southern California Garage: The intermediate step between the house and the dumpster. The land of wavering decisions. The place that still hasn't recovered from the Northridge Quake.
Last Sunday, I was sitting in my friend's living room after we headed back from having Fred 62's amazing "Pancake Tatin" in Los Feliz (too sweet for him.... but nice for me). I was looking through his home's lovely, large picture window overlooking ABC Prospect Studios, and remembered how difficult it was to find a parking space on his small street, even on a Sunday at 10am. On his mighty mid-century coffee table was a dated Franklin Hills Residents Association "Overview" Newsletter from Fall/Winter, 2004, page 11, which included an interesting organizational quote I wanted to cite here on the OrganzingLA Blog:
- "Surveys done by the Greater Griffith Park Neighborhood Council have shown lack of parking is one of our area's biggest concerns. In some parts of Franklin Hills, finding a [parking] space seems to become harder everyday. One reason is that too many garages are filled with everything but cars."
It's no surprise to this Los Angeles-area Professional Organizer that one of the biggest concerns of residents in Los Angeles is lack of parking in this town-- all over, and especially in the Hills above Hollywood. This is one of the reasons why I specialize in organizing garages and this is why the majority of my Clients, once we've completed the hearty tasks, are able to stop parking on the street or at least regain a piece (or is that peace?) of space. There are actually very tough decisions involved and I am most respectful of the folks who give up the things they no longer need. My personal solution is that we make room for what a garage was intended for: a car. At least one car that is...
But I tell you, there is ALWAYS room for another serving of "Pancake Tatin" at Fred 62 on Vermont Avenue. Delicious!
