If you're local to Los Angeles, join OrganizingLA founder John Trosko at WeGo! on Saturday, January 9th when NAPO Los Angeles and the City of West Hollywood present a free community event designed to educate and inspire Angelenos to get organized in 2016. John served two terms as chapter president of NAPO-LA.

From decluttering your home or office, aspiring to have a paperless lifestyle or mastering time management to achieve maximum productivity in your day, Los Angeles best professional organizers will give workshops and offer their best tips for getting organized. Ask-the-organizer panels will present attendees with the opportunity to discuss their own challenges and receive advice from the experts, while companies will exhibit products, services, tools and resources to help you get organized and stay organized.

Ask the Organizer Panel is an opportunity for attendees to hear general organizing advise delivered directly from the experts. Participants include Leslie Haber, Dorothy Breininger, Regina Lark Ph.D, CPO®, Cynthia Smith and John Trosko.

Hold Everything: Do You Remember William Sonoma Inc.’s Home Organization Store?

It's a shame that the folks behind retail organization store Hold Everything could not get the concept to stick.

The retail store operated from 1983 to 2006 and sold everything from newspaper caddies to stylish de-cluttering books to small furniture to nicer office supplies.

I use their very well-made clear acrylic magazine files on my own desk– which I love. While sitting at my desk one day recently and looking at those files, I wondered where they came from and where they went. As a professional organizer in Los Angeles, I am not only fascinated with consumerism, but with how businesses function. This is what I came up with.

Hollywood Set Decorators Use Clutter to Give Substance to Characters

Years ago I fell in love with the cloud bedding from Nick & Nora when I saw the items featured in an independent movie.

Sadly, I can't remember the name of the movie now, but I do remember becoming obsessed with finding the flannel bed sheets I saw in several dream sequences. I pictured myself living the same dreamy perfect life that the sheets were portrayed in. In attempting to locate the store I hit the Internet 1.0 circa 2000 (not a good place to dig deep and find information back then). And at the time, I did not realize I subtly being influenced by the media.

Curb Your Car Clutter And Make Your Commute Care-Free

Abundant sunshine, urban sprawl and a demand for convenient leisure trips to the mountains, beaches and deserts pushed Southern Californians to build a series of "stop-free express highways" (as they were originally proposed to voters) to connect us to our friends and activities like no other geographic area in the nation could.

Not only did Southern Californians practically invent our intense mobility, but 60-years later we seem to actually live in our cars. Bob Hope once called the Hollywood Freeway (pictured above) the "biggest parking lot in the world." Years ago, Hope received his very own exit ramp in his honor on the Ventura Freeway (134) just next to his home in the Toluca Lake neighborhood of the San Fernando Valley.

These days, we may not be able to spend less time in the car, and you may not have your own exit ramp named after you, but we can spend it more efficiently — by getting your car organized, and therefore, making your commute more enjoyable. The small shop located in Studio City just off Ventura Boulevard features Smail's global-inspired color-filled pillows and table textiles supplemented by an eclectic, fun collection of home goods, furniture, organizational solutions and gifts. What grabs you at first are the colors and patterns made right here in the City, perfect for the sunny spaces of Los Angeles– and beyond (they do surely ship). Her inventive use of color and cheerfulness was incorporated not only in her table textiles but in her organizing products.
