Miraculous “Mint Memory Gum” Helps You Find Your Keys

Blue Q Memory Gum 1

Forget your key baskets, buckets and bowls, a new product is on the market to help you get organized and find your keys.

We were shopping for a client at Dick Blick Art Materials in Hollywood today and found this miraculous new chewing gum from Pittsfield, Maine-based Blue Q sitting at the check out. The box boldly said:

  • Instantly remember where you left your keys!
  • Find missing socks!
  • Locate buried treasure!

We were all over Remember Where You Left Your Keys Gum, with its "intense memory stimulating mint" – couldn't wait to get home and try a piece, or two – and see if it worked. After all, Hollywood does seem to be the quick fix capital of the World. So why not try it? Anyway, love the fine print on the package:

Warning: If you have wrongly accused someone of touching your keys, now is the time to apologize. A small gift is appropriate.

What tips do you have for readers to find their keys? Do you know if there is a science behind chewing that stimulates memory? Does mint make you less forgetful? Can gum really replace using a simple hook by the front door? Please share your thoughts in the comments section below.

I have more faith in muscle memory than scents-ability. 🙂
If you have one dedicated place for your keys (a tea-cup hook on the wall, a tiny but lovely bowl on an entrance table, etc.), and you strive to always put the keys there (and invite your kids or loved ones to pester you to do so), eventually, muscle memory will take over and you won’t have to think about it.
I’d also recommend attaching the keys via curly-cord or bungee cord to the interior of a purse, but some women insist on being fashionable and changing their purses to match their outfits. 🙂 (Sorry, I’ve got no comparable tip for guys.)
There was a 2002 study (http://is.gd/aNpHv) at Baylor Medical College regarding the positive benefits of chewing gum while studying and taking tests to improve recall, particularly in math. However, it was sponsored by the Wrigley Institute–so one might take the results with a grain of salt (or mint).
As for fragrance, I know there have been studied that show certain scents really do impact emotion, appetite and cognitive ability. However, I’m betting this mint gum would do better at reminding you where you left your money…at the store where you bought the gum!

Now if it could just set up a filing system, organize a closet and de-clutter a kitchen, we would be out of a job!

The act of chewing always makes me feel more awake and hence I’m more likely to remember stuff. Maybe the sugar rush helps. Not so sure about finding buried treasure though!
