I used to have this long-standing joke with a friend who owned a house in the quiet neighborhood of Outpost Estates, just east of Runyon Canyon and above Hollywood.
I convinced him that Courtney Love had moved in next door, and his quiet tree-lined street was about to get busier with all-night parties, loud music, and motorcycles lined up and around his guest house garage. I had seen a woman who looked a helluva lot like Courtney at the house, and since my friend had never seen his neighbor, my joke was quite successful, at least for a while.
Well, if Courtney did live next door, my friend would probably find it touching to know that Courtney is about to have a sale– not a garage sale, but an auction at Christie’s. She told Spin.com on Monday that the contents in her home are like a "mausoleum" because her husband (and Nirvana rocker) Curt Colbain, died over 13 years ago.
"My daughter [14-year-old Frances Bean] doesn’t need to inherit a giant Hefty bag full of flannel fucking shirts… A sweater, a guitar, and the lyrics to ‘Teen Spirit’ — that’s what my daughter gets. And the rest of it we’ll just fucking sell."
As with everything, getting rid of the old brings the new– even though it’s closet space:
"I still wear his pajamas to bed. How am I ever going to go form another relationship in my lifetime wearing Kurt’s pajamas?"
