As I mentioned last week, I was interviewed by BusinessWeek Magazine, and the podcast is available now!

But I need your help.  Please listen, and post your feedback so I can learn what works in the podcast, and what doesn't.

Smartanswers_1Veteran Journalist Karen E. Klein (pictured, right) and I covered the subject of organizing small offices, entrepreneurs and even mobilizing the troops in a larger organization.  In this information-packed 13-minute segment, you'll hear us uncover some secrets to a successfully organized office:

  • How much mail does the average American receive in, say a lifetime?
  • Why do most business owners fail their employees?
  • What key items are you missing in your office that could create stellar productivity?
  • What similar qualities do disorganized businesses have?  How can you can avoid them?
  • What is my secret question I ask during business needs assessments?
  • Why should you dump all your desktop paperwork and go out to the pool?

If you're not familiar with them, a podcast is a digital media file distributed over the Internet for playback on your computer or iPod-style media player.  The file downloads automatically when you click on the icon and you can listen to the podcast at your leisure, in your car or while hiking, say in Runyon Canyon, if you live in Los Angeles.

My name or company name is not on the BusinessWeek Smart Answers page yet.  We're working on it, but rest assured it's me.

Readers, again– listen to the podcast (click here to listen) [new link 09/01/09] and give us some feedback!

Way to go, John! It’s nice to hear your voice after reading your blog. I loved “Organizing Messiah” – that has a nice ring to it.

Amazing how you were able to cover so much great information is less than 14 minutes. Kudos. I loved the podcast format. While listening to it, I got even more work done at the same time. Maybe you can produce some of your own at your website (video versions would be even better!!!).

    hi John
How are you doing and how Organizing La is going.
I am Hajra a Project Director here at IPKO Institute organization in Prishtina/Kosova (West-eastern Europe). I have heard of your business in the podcast in Smart Answers series of the Business Week magazine, and I have found it very very interesting discussion that you had there.
Because I am into project management field since 6 years ago and I find amazing and very interesting the organization and structuring the office because thats what makes it functional and productive, although most of executives or private businesses are not very much aware of it.
I think your business idea is very interesting and quite unique, because so far I havent heard any type of that service being provided in Europe or in the web. The reason why I am writing to you is that I was wondering if there is anyway I could help and support you to the future development of your business idea because to me is very exciting and interesting segment of the business to work on.
p.s You did great in explanining the importance of Organizing your business during the podcast at Business Week.
Wishing you all the best am looking forward to hearing from you.

    Hi John,
I’m really glad you have done this podcast. Your fast-paced, efficient manner of speaking is muchly appreciated by this compulsive hoarder because I download files on organization. I think this interview was really well done and I’m going to keep this podcast in my collection. I think us slobs/clutterers/hoarders/perfectionists need tips on PREVENTING clutter. Because for me it’s such a struggle to deal with stuff, tips on not getting any stuff in the first place is extremely important. Also, I was thinking of some buzzwords or slogans so we can remember what to do. Like “only handle it once” when it comes to paper. How about a podcast on severing the emotional ties to material things? How about “out of sight out of mind”. Anyhow, I’ll be downloading any organizing podcasts you provide in the future. Thanks muchly. ~Leanne
