Martha Stewart & KB Homes Building in Los Angeles – Didn’t Anyone Hear About Thomas Kinkade’s Failed Attempt?

I was amused (okay, jealous) to hear Martha Stewart has entered an exclusive agreement with KB Homes, already testing the concept in Cary, NC with plans for "Marthavilles" from Orlando, FL to Hollywood (no, not FL– California.)  Here’s an expert taken from Martha’s website:

"I am delighted to introduce Twin Lakes, a unique community we are creating with KB Home, featuring houses inspired by my own homes in New York and Maine."

"…these beautiful and functional residences will showcase the warmth, innovative design, and high quality that are so important to me. Home-buyers can even choose from among my favorite faucets, counter-tops, flooring, and light fixtures to truly create the house of their dreams."

It’s great to see Martha moving forward with life.  I caught the Donald’s mean-spirited comments yesterday on the View, while I was home sick with the Flu.  In regards to his un-ending comments about Martha’s failed Apprentice, I still can’t figure out if he’s playing a game to create a stir, distancing himself from bad ratings, or he’s trying to show the world how much smarter his daughter Ivanka is compared to Alexis (he mentioned Ivanka went to Wharton about six times.)

Our feeling around town is that Martha’s McMansions will sell like fresh organic blueberry hotcakes.  A similar taste-test in 2002 revealed the Thomas Kinkade Vallejo, CA Hiddenbrooke Village that should have gone down the garbage disposal.  But as LAist says, in order for Martha to hit her price-point, she’ll have to build in Hesperia or Hemet– where land is abundant.  But will she be able to include all those high-price fixtures and upgrades that make a great home a good thing?

OrganizingLA readers, your thoughts on Martha’s McMansions?

Martha, Martha … ya gotta hand it to her — she’s an entreprenuer and visionary. In actuality, I believe she’s tapped into a prosperous market: prefab homes. Her McMansion homes (which I would like to refer to as McMartha homes) are stylish and appealing, and her hopes of building her own prefab empire… well, my hat’s off to her (wish I had her marketing-funding resources to pull it off!)

My parents are moving to Raleigh, North Carolina, and they’ve taken a close look at Martha Stewart’s home commmunity in Cary. They were really impressed, but because of a knee injury, they needed a ranch-style house, with no stairs. Martha doesn’t offer this model at the moment so they keep looking.
