Expert Tips For Getting Organized In the New Year

New Jersey/New York Professional Organizers Dorothy Frischman and partner Nancy Goldsmith whom Dcp_1668 we became acquainted with at the NAPO Conference last May, were quoted in January’s upstateHOUSE.  The Hudson Valley (New York) magazine provided great expert tips on getting organized for the New Year from the Organized by Us team, among others:

  1. Set boundaries for a spouse who loves to collect clutter
  2. Get rid of the junk before tackling any remodeling or decorating projects
  3. 8 out of 10 people could benefit from de-cluttering their junk
  4. Use on-line services for bill-paying– this will drastically decrease your paper problems.
  5. An organizing "buddy" can help you keep focused– pick someone who is not emotionally attached to your things
  6. Set "organizing" appointments with yourself on your calendar
  7. Garage and tag sales can be too labor-intensive and are not always lucrative– just donate the items to a charity

Great tips John – useful stuff as always. #7 is so true … I can be an ebay addict, but I’ve come to realize that sometimes that effort involved in selling that old pair of wireless headphones for $12 probably wasn’t worth the time. I’ll be avoiding wasting that time in the future! Also, I’d love to meet the 2 people out of 10 who don’t need to declutter their junk … 🙂

I stumbled across your blog while I was doing some online research. Another alternative to the traditional tag sale or to donating items is to offer them online on a site like Freecyle.
