Stair Baskets Help You Corral the Clutter
We've heard that the road to clutter is paved with good intentions.
If you're working yourself away from clutter, you may hit a state of organizing euphoria, which people tell us is a kind of "Heaven."
Since organizing Heaven is above, and you need babysteps to get there, maybe you can be efficient and take some stuff up with you and put it back where it belongs?
To that end, we've put together some stair step basket ideas we've researched recently for a client. All have interesting qualities, and come in a variety of modern and cutely styles. So, take advantage of the time we spent and get inspired. These baskets, and the right habits, can corral the stuff you need to bring upstairs, to your second floor, and organized Heaven.
The procedure is simple:
You collect stuff that needs to be brought upstairs and place those items into the basket(s). The baskets keep your stairs clean and neat.
Make sure you measure your stair step height and check the measurements of your basket. Stair heights vary and so do the baskets.
They save time by not having you keep going up and down for different trips. Train yourself and your family to follow this easy system. Keep in mind they do block part of the stairway so they may not be a solution for seniors or very small toddlers (who probably shouldn't be allowed to roam up and down the stairs anyway.)
Let's go shopping for stair step baskets:
Chic Leather stair basket in tan or dark (pictured, above). Personally, this is our favorite and it comes from the Holding Company, the UK's "storage and organisation specialists."
Sea Grass Basket from Neatnix (above). Neat, modern appearance with a strong frame and durable handle.
Amish Maple Stair Step Basket, from Artsinheavan.com (above). We like the hand-made quality, made by an Old Order Amish Family on their farm. The pieces are signed, and are hand-dyed. Available unfinished, too.
Kountry Craft Stair Baskets (above). No handles, but the style may be simple enough to do the job. We've linked to other styles in their online store.
Rope Stair Basket by Greenbriar (above). Seagrass weaving, handmade by Old World Artisans, with wooden frame and handle.
Traders and Company Hand Dyed Contemporary Split Wood Step Basket (above). Available in wonderful colors, like aqua (shown), kiwi and red. Availability varies though.
Faux Leather from Organize.com and Richards Homewares (above). Quick grab handles, soft felt interior and durable stitched exterior. We love this one, too.

John,
I love stair baskets. I haven't seen one or heard about one for over 8 years. I want the leather one. I will be saving my money. Great post!

John:
This isn't really an organizing tip, but more a home decorating tip:
Stair baskets are also perfect for dried or silk flower arrangements in your entryway. You can change the flowers seasonally.
You can also make or purchase a fabric liner (or decorative garter) to enhance the look.
Happy organizing!

Stair baskets can be decorative and are definitely functional.
I have a friend that when we first met, had every single step lined with little piles of stuff that he "was going to bring up the stairs".
We've worked through all those piles now, so a stair basket will be a lovely gift for him. The leather basket is awesome!
Thanks for the links!

I've never seen a stair basket. What an awesome idea. One big difference I notice between Canadian and American organizing is the wider range of products you have to work with. We just don't have the population to support the variety.
Cheers,
Alex
